Mass edit of song database

Post by twistsd » Tue Apr 05, 2016 4:30 am

What is the best application to use to make a mass edit to the song information instead of having to chance it on each song.

The Songs are stored in a MS SQL Server compact edition (CE) database. One could write a program to perform a mass edit, but there's nothing (i.e. no mass edit capability) currently supported - natively with PowerWorship. There are likely third party utilities that would allow you to operate on the data, but you'd want to be careful to not modify the db structure, or to make other unintentional/undesired updates in the process.

Another option to consider ... you could export the songs from PowerWorship which creates an XML file containing the song data. You could then edit the XML via any text editor or XML editor, but again (similar to directly updating the database) you'd want to be careful when updating the XML so as not to corrupt the file integrity, etc. Once you edit the XML, you could then reimport the songs in pW. (Perhaps delete them all before reimporting, depending what you are changing).

If you decide to go either route, please kindly post an update with any advice / suggestions you might have - for others to learn from.
